Health is Wealth

During Diwali vacation my nephew had come to stay at our place. Like we use to get homework for Diwali vacation, now a days, children call the same thing as a project work. For his project work, he had to write a passage on ‘Health is wealth’ and he wanted me to help him completing the task.

I took the task as an opportunity, since I often feel starved of having enough ideas to write about. Soon I penned down a passage keeping his age in mind and taking real life instances  from my childhood.

And here is what I wrote for him…

Could you believe that I still get a feeling of gloom when I remember the days I had fallen ill. A few months ago I had a viral fewer which kept me bed ridden for several days. Lying on the bed in a corner of my room I used to hear voices of children playing outside which prompted me to get up and join them. But, I remember how weak I used to feel getting up which forced me to drop the idea of going out.

It was only after a few days when I recovered from the ill health I was able to get back to playing. During my illness, I remember, how my Mom used to take care of me. In the morning she used to give me a warm water sponge bath which used to relax my body and make me feel fresh. Then she used to serve me with some fresh apples and oranges. To bring back the stamina I lost, at lunch, she used to serve me with vegetable broth or tomato and spinach soup. For dinner, again I used to have boiled vegetables or cereals.

Falling ill has made me aware of how important it is to maintain oneself in a good health. It is often heard that India is becoming a diabetes hub. We all know how deadly diabetes could be if not given proper attention since it leads to many other diseases like blood pressure, heart attack, glaucoma and stroke to name a few. Therefore, we all should take good care of ourselves to live a healthy life because living without a good health could be very miserable. So it is better to start living a healthy life.

To live healthily, I have started practicing good hygiene. I keep myself squeaking clean. I always wash my hands with a liquid soap before and after my meals. I practice good oral hygiene as well. Since I have realised the importance of good health, I have stopped eating junk food, which I used to thrive on like anything. It has really helped me stop putting on an unwanted flab around my tummy, making me feel very energetic and fit.

I have also recognised what difference regular exercise can make. So, I have made it a point to get up early and jog around the school campus for about 40 minutes. In vacations I attended Yoga classes where I enjoyed doing various kinds of Pranayams. My exercise regime has started showing up positive effects on my physical and mental health. My face is glowing like never before and toppers in the class have become a bit worried about holding on their positions.

It is only the health that can bring true joys to your life. Your well being is the potential within you that can lead you to a successful life. It would not be wrong if I say “Health is where all wealth goes”. So, to be wealthy and remain wealthy maintaining good health is equally important.

That’s what I wrote. The passage, when I go through it, makes me nostalgic about the days I spent lying ill in the bed when I was my nephew’s age.
